A & M Counseling is an outpatient mental health counseling agency specializing in a variety of concerns. Our Wood River office opened in August of 2006. We expanded to a second location in Belleville two years later.
Melissa McHenry, MA, LCPC
Melissa graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2000 with two Masters degrees in Adult and Child Psychology. She is licensed as a Professional Clinical Counselor, in the State of Illinois. Her clinical experience includes treating children, adolescents and adults with a variety of mental helath issues. Her specialized therapy includes Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Play Therapy, Theraplay, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy.
With children and adolescents Melissa is specialized in treating childhood sexual, emotional and psysical abuse; behavior problems; self-injurous behavior and depression. She has also worked with children with attachment problems withing the foster care system and helps with reunification.
With adults Melissa has worked with couples through marriage counseling develop communication and conflict resolution skills. She has experience with treating domestic violence victims and offenders. She also has experience treating depression and anxiety. She has worked with blended family issues and provides parent training.
Karen Augustyn, MA, LCPC, CADC
Karen W. Augustyn graduated from LIndenwood University in 1999 with a Masters Degree in Professional Counseling. She is licensed in the state of Illinois and Missouri as a Professional Clinical Counselor. In Illinois she is licensed as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor.
Her clinical experiences began in crisis intervention with the chronically mentally ill and chemically dependent. She has provided individual, family and group therapy in community mental health as well as hospital settings. She now practices in a traditional outpatient setting and teaches at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville.
She utilizes predominately the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy module, as well as Solution Focused Therapy. With couples Karen incorporates Systems Theories.
She enjoys working with a variety of populations including couples, adults and children.
In the outpatient setting, Karen has provided substance abuse assessments and treatment for court-ordered and employee mandated clients. For employers, she has provided "fit for duty' assessments.
Erika King, MSW, LCSW
Erika King graduated from St. Louis University in 2004 with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She had previously received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Southeast Missouri State University in 2002. She is licensed in both the states of Missouri and Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2006.
Erika’s experiences began in the child welfare system, working with high-risk youth in both the Southeast Missouri region and the St. Louis metropolitan area. Her career then transitioned into providing clinical mental health treatment to children and adolescents in the crisis setting. In 2005 Erika began working as a therapist in a local mental health facility. She provided individual, group, and family therapy to children and adolescents in an inpatient setting. She also developed an outpatient weekly children’s group utilizing the Aggression Replacement Training model. Erika has also spoken and provided trainings on working with ADHD children for educators and caregivers.
Erika’s specialties include children, adolescent, and family issues, women’s issues, depression/anxiety, and stress management. She has a special interest in the treatment of children and adolescents with mental health and behavioral issues, as well as working with Asperger’s children. She also has a special interest in the treatment of female adolescents suffering from depression and anxiety. She utilizes predominately the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy module, as well as Solution Focused Therapy and Play Therapy. Erika incorporates Systems Theories and Transgenerational Theories into each client’s treatment.
